NightRider...Coming on Strong

NightRider is a music project that started only a few months ago but which is already a sensation among both young and senior audiences.
They are five young and talented musicians hailing from different locations in Extremadura (Spain), namely Cáceres, Mérida and Orellana la Vieja. They play metal, hair metal and glam metal, intending to bring back some of the 80's greatest metal hits that went down in the history of music and made a difference both in their development as musicians and in their particular music styles and techniques.

In their shows, they play enthusiastically and energetically hits by, among others, Dio, Van Hallen, Ozzy Osbourne, Cinderella, Bon Jovi, Twisted Sister, Metallica, Yngwie Malmsteen, Whitesnake, Dokken, Guns & Roses, Danzig, Motley Crue... and many others.

The band members are, from left to right: Antonio Mariscal (bass), Román H. (guitars), Dave Bada (vocals), Juan Carsí (drums) and Manuel "Ele" (keyboards).

NightRider is currently booking venues for their shows and about to kick off their 2010 tour. Their anxious fans were waiting with expectation for the release of their first themes, which were released a few hours ago. You can listen to them on their myspace: Queen In Love (Yngwie Malmsteen Cover) by nightrider and Here I Go Again (whitesnake Cover) by nightrider. You can also follow them on facebook.

It was high time that a band took an interest in not only performing but also making better known among younger audiences legendary themes such as Yngwie Malmsteen's "Queen in Love" and Whitesnake's "Here I go Again". They are giving away three free tickets for their first gig -you can find related information on their myspace. Good luck to everyone!

Preface

Mock me if you like, but I felt like calling my first entry "preface". I must say I've always wanted to write a book, and since I haven't written any books... not even a page, I suppose I must have poured some of my frustration into this entry. But fear not, ladies and gentlemen, I won't bore you with my stories. I will merely dedicate this blog to writing short reviews and some thoughts, whenever I fancy, touching different subjects, mostly having to do with the English language -whether dealing with books or film adaptations, or with linguistic matters, e.g. Global English, learning and teaching English as a Foreign or Second Language, etc.

Today, I present you with quite a short review of a film I watched pretty recently and which I enjoyed, as much as I enjoyed all other Shakespearean comedies -film adaptations- in which Kenneth Branagh was envolved, either playing a role as an actor or, as in this case, directing the film.

As You Like It (2006)

The brand new film adaptation of the homonym Shakespearean comedy, by Kenneth Branagh, truly accurately reflects the atmosphere with which the Elizabethan playwright endows his comedies. Furthermore, the film combines everyday monastic and pastoral life with the pomp of the British court, somehow veiled by the mystery -and concealed behind the screens- of Japanese culture.
